Sierra Leone: “The savings group ministry has come at just the right time.”

In 2011, local church-planting teams in Sierra Leone began partnering with GAiN Canada and the JESUS Film Church Planting Strategy (JFCPS), with a vision to share the Good News of Jesus with their neighbors. In the 14 years since, these efforts have resulted in over 1,000 churches being started. Praise God!

Now, at HOPE International, we’re excited to be invited into the incredible work God has been doing in Sierra Leone by partnering with local churches and equipping them with our savings group model so they can better serve their communities. Continue Reading…

Planting seeds in wartime: Evgheni and Denis’s story

“When I need help, God supports me,” reflects Moldovan farmer Evgheni Malai. 

As the Russia-Ukraine war presses into a third year, many families in the surrounding region live in fear that the violence will spread across their borders. Moldova is especially vulnerable, sharing a border with Ukraine and economic ties with Russia. Farmers like Evgheni Malai and his twin brother Denis in Moldova face a difficult choice: leave their livelihoods behind and flee, or stay and learn to adapt their business to a wartime economy.   Continue Reading…

Expansion in Kenya: an answer to 12 years of prayer

In 2010, Small and Micro Enterprise Program (SMEP) Microfinance Bank, a Christ-centered microfinance institution serving families in Kenya, celebrated a major distinction: It became the third deposit-taking microfinance bank in the country to be licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. But along with its approval, the central bank issued one caveat: SMEP needed to add investors to its ownership pool.

It sounded like a simple request—yet it proved to be anything but.

Same mission. Same heart. Same spirit. Same name in two languages. We’ve worked together in mutual partnership for over 17 years, and we are excited that this union is about a Kingdom agenda.

HOPE International welcomed Esperanza International as its first network partner in 2005. Esperanza has served entrepreneurs in the Dominican Republic (D.R.) since 1995, coming alongside them with financial services, training, and holistic outreach activities such as health services. And we’re excited to now work even more closely with Esperanza through our new leadership agreement!  

Over the past 17 years, HOPE and Esperanza have mutually benefited from shared best practices and technical expertise. With the same mission and heart, Esperanza has strengthened the HOPE network, and we look forward to the ways that they will help shape the way we grow and serve in these key areas.
